arasmx is a small mailing list management system which could replace mailman in some of its functions. It is implemented as a plugin for the MTA (which will have to be worked on one MTA at a time), and uses simple files for storing its data (and can thus go as quickly as the MTA for the most common operation, delivering normal list messages).
We now (early January 2002) have most Hello World features working, and development is paused due to commitments to other projects.

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
