Notes: XPLC is a component system that tries to enable the use of components in a pervasive way. Among the strategies used to further this goal:

Easy to use
Low speed overhead (uses C++-style virtual method invocation)
Low size overhead (the stripped shared object is 18k)
Language neutral
Platform neutral

Basically, the idea is to leave no excuse for an application not to be component-enabled (being a component and/or using components). There is an article on Advogato detailing and discussing the design of XPLC. This article, while actually about COM, contains a lot of stuff that applies to XPLC.
