GNU make is the GNU project's implementation of the venerable UNIX build management utility, make.
GNU make fully complies with the POSIX standard definition of make, while adding a host of advanced features which can reduce the size of your makefiles while increasing the speed of your builds.
Don't bother with writing portable makefiles, use a portable make instead!
