GNU Midnight Commander is a file manager for free operating systems. Like other GNU software, it is written in a portable manner and should compile and run on a wide range of operating systems with some degree of UNIX compatibility. GNU Midnight Commander is licensed under GNU General Public License (GPL). Being a text mode application, GNU Midnight Commander can be used locally or remotely, on the console or under X Window System. By using full screen space of the terminals, it provides an intuitive user interface to the operating system, aiming to be a useful tool for users with any level of experience, from a newbie to a guru. GNU Midnight Commander also supports a GNOME interface, which was historically the first file manager for the GNOME project. This interface is no longer under active development.
This project has the following developers:
New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
