Hello. I created this account for the sole purpose of posting to the "meta" article, but only being at the "dimwit" level has ironically thwarted my posting abilities. Damn this feeble brain!

Anyway, I have a good non-sexist alternative to "Journeyman," if anyone cares: "Ronin." Same connotation, no gender. "Jack," if I have my medieval slang correct, meant pretty much the same thing as "Journeyman," but isn't really genderless.
