Barriers to entry in open source projects.
One of the things that I've seen to be a downside in many
open source projects is that while they embrace the
licensing, but not necessarily the ideals that go with it.
It's all too easy to forget that the strength of open source
is in it's community, and there are too many examples to
mention of projects where getting involved in their
communities is way harder than it should be.
Knowingly, and unknowingly, projects create barriers that
prevent effective entry into the community and effective
participation. How much of this is really necessary? How
much of this is harmful, and how much can be done about it?
