Well, I've got a job again. A great job, in a great company, in a great city. That probably means I am not up for adoption anymore :)

Yesterday, Conectiva Linux 6.0 was released, and I "loaned" a CD-R copy of it with a friend. (No, CL 6.0 is not on the streets yet, but if you read my previous entries, you will see that I have worked there in the past, and that I have many friends there)

The install went very well, and I had quite a few good suprises about it. A lot has changed, including the interface, which was revamped. CL 6.0 also got a nice text frontend, and a parted based partitioning mid-layer.

The installed system was also a pleasure for me. Besides the obvious incredible amount of packages updated, a few great features could be noted: grub is used by default now, and it even has a nice GUI (WinNT alike), the themes used by Conectiva look much better than they did in the past, and the choice of icons and menus is much better than before. Another good point about Cl 6.0 is the adoption of apt-get as an auto update agent. (apt-get works in CL in basically the same way it works on Debian)

Also, I have made the usual certification of the day. Ralf Bächle gets a Master level (I can not believe someone is able to certify him as journeyer - given the amount (and quality!) of work he has done for the free software comunity). Changed certifications of baretta, gwm & ruda to Master. They have been doing an incredible amount of good work over the months and years, and besides I don't know too many guys that lead the development of a Linux distribution ;)

It's been a long time since I've added any news at this page for the last time. Too many things happened in the mean time. It's not even fair to try to explain everything :)

In august I left my job at Conectiva, to work in the USA, I even found a job there. But for many reasons (mostly bureaucracy) I won't be able to work in the USA :(

As a side note, I have started a little project, in Python - I am designing/developing a RPM specfile editor, having in mind problems like compatibility with manually written specfiles. Feel free to take a look at it, here.

Also, I certified a few friends that joined Advogato since the last time I was here.

I finally sould out, and created my account on advogato. So, to paraphrase The Cranberries "Everybody else is doing it, so why can't we?"

CL is being frozen today. I am cleaning up the MI tree for this beta. (side note: RPM sucks)

certifications

I have an opinion that I shall only certificate people that I know personally. So you probably won't see me certificating Alan Cox. (Hey, I am not saying he is not a master! :)

Well, here goes the certifications for today:
I certificated claudio, ruda, gwm, kojima, riel, marcelo, acme and bruder. All of them are some of my fellow co-employees at Conectiva. Riel got a master for his work with Linux MM. Kojima, for his *amazing* work with WindowMaker, and acme, for creating Conectiva Linux. (But don't get cooky guys! :)
