Keep GE Salmon Off Our Tables

Keep GE Salmon Off Our Tables: Tell Supermarkets, Food Companies, and Seafood Restaurants to Reject GE Salmon!

SIGN NOW: http://bit.ly/KeepGeSalmonOffOurTables

Center for Food Safety (CFS), along with Friends of the Earth and a coalition of thirty consumer, food safety, fishing, environmental, sustainable agriculture, parent, public health and animal welfare organizations, have launched a national Campaign for GE-Free Seafood. Over the last month, we’ve sent letters to the nation’s top grocery stores, seafood companies, and seafood restaurants asking them to commit to not sell genetically engineered fish should it come to market.

Some of the biggest grocery stores in the U.S. have already replied, stating that they will not sell genetically engineered salmon in their stores, including: Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Marsh Supermarkets, Aldi, and PCC Natural Markets! Additionally, over 200 chefs and restaurants have signed CFS’s Pledge for GE-Free Fish stating that they will not intentionally purchase, sell, or serve genetically engineered salmon in their restaurants. Together, these supermarkets and restaurants are showing that they care about consumers and sustainable fisheries. But there are a lot more companies yet to sign!

Since the FDA has stated that it will likely not require GE fish to be labeled, consumers will have no way of avoiding the fish at the market unless companies make clear to consumers where they stand on the issue.

Help urge these companies to take a position rejecting GE salmon!

CISPA is Back

Friends:

CISPA is back, and we need Obama to stand up for privacy by pledging to veto it.

Click here to tell Obama to veto CISPA:

Last year, our collective efforts helped put a stop to one of the gravest threats to online privacy and internet freedom we have ever seen -- The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act.

The bill grants companies unprecedented power to obtain users' personal information (such as from private communications) and to disclose that data to the government without a warrant -- including sending data to the National Security Agency. Earlier this year CISPA was reintroduced in the House of Representatives. Last year Obama pledged to veto CIPSA -- we need him to do so again.

The new bill has the very same dangerous problems as last year's version. CISPA 2.0 would grant immunity to private companies who share your data with other companies, private agencies, and the government. And CISPA permits the use of your personal data for reasons completely unrelated to cybersecurity. Now, as before, we cannot sacrifice our hard-won liberties and privacy rights in the pursuit of a misguided and overbroad conception of "security." We need your help.

One major caveat: Don't get hung up on the Feinstein bills. There are many unwanted proposals up for consideration. Oppose them all. #2a

Here is my message to #Maryland state government. - #nra #tcot #gunrights #guncontrol #2a #tgdn #molonlabe

I'm opposed to all current gun control proposals. Please support the
2nd amendment. Gun bans, background checks, and registries are not the
answer, and they fail the intent of the 2nd amendment.

It is unfortunate that Maryland is considering such stringent
proposals, since the state will bear the brunt of legal challenges to
unconstitutional laws. Hasn't Maryland had enough of such shenanigans.
It is a waste of our tax dollars.

Mental health provisions are dangerous for many reasons, but foremost
that people will avoid treatment to retain their rights, and legal
challenges will be unlikely due to the injustice of mental illness
stigma. Legislators should not dragnet the mental health of our
community.

Gun ban restrictions are ridiculous and unreasoned, because they will
not prevent any crime or act of violence. It is really absurd. Our
rights should not be challenged in the pursuit of hysterical agendas
and slim temporary majorities. The cost is too high.

Stand with Rep. Barbara Lee, and stand up for diplomacy with Iran

Dear Friend,

After more than a decade of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, many members of
Congress are trying to force us into a war with Iran.

Fear-mongering and propaganda aside, Iran is not an imminent threat to the
United States -- and we haven't yet exhausted all avenues for diplomacy to
ensure Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.

But as a result of the Iranian Revolution over 30 years ago, current law
makes it very difficult for American diplomats to talk directly to
representatives of the Iranian government.

That is why Congresswoman Barbara Lee has introduced legislation that, in
her words, "would require President Obama to appoint a high level Special
Envoy to Iran to engage in sustained, comprehensive negotiations to ensure
that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons."

Sign the petition. Tell your member of Congress to co-sponsor Rep. Lee's
bill to avoid an unnecessary and costly war with Iran. Just click the link

Tell John Kerry: Limit Greenhouse Gas Pollution From Aviation Now

More efficient airplanes and new technologies to reduce greenhouse gas pollution from airplanes are available. But the airline industry and the U.S. State Department have been blocking international proposals to reduce greenhouse gas pollution from aviation as the climate crisis continues to worsen.

Last year the industry even got Congress to pass legislation which would allow U.S. airlines to ignore the European Union's new rules to reduce aviation emissions. The result: The EU program was suspended for one year to allow for an international body to put together an agreement to reduce global emissions from the sector.

Now we need to make sure our new secretary of state hears from us: The aviation sector should not be exempted from reducing their emissions. We need a binding international agreement to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas pollution from aviation now.

45 days to tell Pres. Obama to reject #Keystone XL #nokxl

Dear Friend,

On Friday, the State Department launched a 45 day public comment period on
their latest sham review of the Keystone XL Pipeline.

The clock is now ticking on what will likely be our last chance to
officially weigh in on the "game over for the climate" tar sands pipeline,
before the President makes his decision later this year.

The recently released Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement
that is the subject of these comments is a cynical sham that ignores the
pipeline's significant risks.

We need a response that will make clear to the Obama administration that
Americans oppose the Keystone XL pipeline. Please join me in urging
President Obama to stop the sham reviews and reject Keystone XL:

Tell Your Senators to Reject Keystone XL Now

The U.S. Senate could vote as early as Tuesday to force President Obama to build the disastrous Keystone XL pipeline.

We urgently need your help to make sure that doesn’t happen.

The 1,700-mile pipeline would, every day, carry up to 35 million gallons of oil strip-mined from Canada’s “tar sands” -- some of the dirtiest, most climate-hostile fuels on the planet. One leading climate scientist says Keystone XL will be “game over” for our ability to avoid a climate catastrophe.

It would also cut through rivers, streams, and wildlife habitat for at least 20 imperiled species, including whooping cranes and pallid sturgeon.

If we’re going to stop Keystone XL in its tracks, we need to show massive opposition. Right now that means calling on your senators to reject an amendment that cuts the public out of the process and immediately allows Keystone XL to move forward.
Keystone XL is not worth the staggering risks to people, wildlife and a healthy climate.
