Finally decided to join advogato, if not only to certify some of my friends, and state that code reviews are good. Heck, they're great, because they help confirm that the Open Source software that we all use on a daily basis isn't riddled with holes and coded by monkeys. Which brings me to my point. After looking through the source code of countless existing Open Source utility programs, I was amazed to find out that quite a few of those utilities were in dire need of some code cleanups. I think a lot of the smaller Linux apps out there could benefit from a good code review procedure. Problem is... Who's supposed to do it? Does anyone care enough to do it? Does the effort outweigh the benefits? I certainly don't think so. Then again, I'm probably part of the group that doesn't care enough to do it.
