ldunbar: I wish to take over the Pharmacy maintainership since I feel the updates are very infrequent. Plus every update does not seem to get the project toward a usable conclusion. I have been in conversation with the maintainer for two months now. I also have some new sample code if you wish to look at it: http://joseph.vespera.org/hacks/pharmacy/pharmacy-0.0.1.tar.gz. I am currently in the process of rebuilding the code from scratch in an effort to keep it clean and to implement the CVS code more robustly.

New Release

I have a new version of Pharmacy out. It is still currently in the larval stages, but I am continuing progress on the redesign. I hope to have functional code soon. If you would like to take a look at what I currently have, look here: http://joseph.vespera.org/hacks/pharmacy/. Email me at joseph@vespera.org with any suggestions.

Work

I have been very depressed about my current job recently. I used to have the drive to conquer the world and make a difference. I still have that drive, but it is so hidden and covered up by cynicism that I need to jump ship or I will never get it back. I am at a point where I want to get out and I don't really care if I have a backup job or not.

Code

On a positive note, I have been hacking around with a lot of things lately. I have decided to take Pharmacy under my wing. The project has been moving very slowly, almost to a point where it seems as if nothing is happening. When I first came upon the project, I found it useful but there were several features that need to be added in order for it to be truly useful. So right now I am in the process of gutting the current architecture and building it up from scratch. In the end, I want to have a robust program that will allow users to manage a cvs repository graphically.

Palm

I received a PalmPilot IIIxe over Christmas from my wife and my in-laws. Thank you! I have been spending much time loading it with programs and generally trying to organize my life.

Hacking

I have been working on a personal version of GnomePM without the multiple account capability. I am experimenting with a few things and I may release it as a personal project so that I can get my feet wet. I have been an observer for a long time and I feel like making a contribution back.

Started looking at GnomePM over the weekend. Fixed two problems in the most current code in CVS. The first problem involved GnomePM crashing when the user did not select a portfolio in the "Open Portfolio" dialog. The second problem involved the symbol lookup function failing to print out the results in the list box.

I just ordered a copy of Debian 2.2.

This weekend I plan on ridding myself of Slackware for good. I have no problem with it though. I have used Slackware for two years, but I am looking forward to a more automatic packaging system. I have been having a bear of a time installing Helix Gnome.

After I finish getting my machine back in order, I plan to take a deeper look into gnome-vfs and gconf. At my day job, I have implemented a virtual file transfer library for the product I work on. I completed this far before I knew of gnome-vfs. I feel I could be of assistance with the project.

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.

Keep up with the latest Advogato features by reading the Advogato status blog.
