Notes:

I have been a Debian developer for about two years now. I am a professional astronomer working at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In my free time, I maintain several debian packages, most of them related to the sciences. I also try to help out with sponsoring prospective new developers, and am now part of the new-maintainer committee. I hang out sometimes in debian developer's IRC channel as Gop_Astro.

I have benefited a lot in my professional life from the GNU/Linux revolution of the past decade, and I cherish my involvement with debian as a small way of returning the favor to the community. I also have written some of my own science and engineering related software, which I hope to release for public consumption, one of these days!
