Hello diary, living in Paris since January
Sorry for being too harsh
Reading my entries in blog again, my feeling is, that I have been too harsh; I was frustated. I'm sure we'll work something out.
Think about it...
Recent days expressions like "Teamfähigkeit" and trust came into my mind.
PrismTech - Franks new employment
This month Xtradyne Technologies has been taken over by PrismTech, an US/british company, one of leading companies for Middleware Technology and CORBA framework. It happened quite unexpectedly but offers great chances.
GNOME Deutschland e.V. gets into shape
Allmost one month ago "GNOME Deutschland" has been formed as association, and in the meanwhile we succeeded to solve a number of tasks: Prepare official documents, setting up the GNOME Deutschland e.V. webpage (thanks to Chrisime and Bene), welcome first new member (#16), getting into touch with merchandizing companies, etc.
Of course I made some unpleasant experiences, first to mention, administrator of gnome-de.org refused access, not even for sub-pages; but having a look at GNOME Deutschland e.V. webpage now, I should be grateful.
My presentation at berlinux was quiet successfull, auditorium for 200 people. Prepared slides and demos all night long, now I need some sleep.
GNOME-Volume-Manager works with Canon-A85
Preparing for presentation next week-end, I struggled with gnome-volume-manager. In the end I got it to work, now attaching Canon-A85 to PC, image-browser shows up. Solution was to add two lines to hotplug config file ( see bug report), furtheron user must be member of group camera and in dialog "Drives and Media Preferences" (Applications->Desktop Preferences->Removable Storage") the "Digital-Camera" entry should contain command /usr/bin/gnome-volume-manager-gthumb %h
Enjoy the Borowitz Report, todays news:
KERRY STEPS UP PRAISE OF CHENEY'S DAUGHTER
At least on Debian/experimental Evolution-2.0.2-2 depends on libegroupwise6, not being in package list - installing fails. I sent package-maintainer a note; would be nice if he would publish missing package soon.
GNOME Volume Manager
Installed Debian packages of HAL, dbus, and gnome-volume-manager, but inserting USB-Stick no additional file-browser appeared with content - solution was to create an additional symbolic link (as root)
cd /etc/hal/device.d/ ; ln -s /usr/sbin/fstab-sync fstab-sync.hal
Now, attaching my USB stick, a file-browser appears, but attaching my Canon-A85 simply libgphoto2 is loaded, but nothing else :(
Device-Interfaces (eth0, ppp0, etc.)
Need to know INET-Address assigned to Network-Device, eg. eth0, ppp0, etc. Way it is solved on Linux differs completely from sysctl-operation schema described in R.Stevens book. The only sample code I could find was using ioctl-operation; which is not portable for Solaris or HPUX, I assume.
New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
