So, the Galaga game is still broken at work. Brian said that
he was getting Ops a present... and I sure as hell hope it's
either a poof chair or a Galaga repair person with a bow on
his head.

I realized, as I spent about 6 hours debugging backups for
$BIG_NAME_OPEN_SOURCE_PROJECT the other day, that I do a
hell of a lot more work for the Free Software community at
my current job than I ever did at Linuxcare or Quicknet or
on my own even.

I need to learn more Solaris and FreeBSD and how to write
portable shell scripts. GAR. I think I get to learn BGP soon
too. Wooooo. Last week I learned more about administering
CVS repositories than I ever wanted to know.

The Free Dmitry train parked in my life for a few days last
weekend, and I realized that I'm just not a protest sort of
person anymore, not like I was ten years ago. I have
indirectly lent a mobo, cpu, and RAM to the cause, and I
hope that that will be sufficient. I'm certainly glad that
there
are others out there like Crackmonkey, Seth Schoen, Mr.Bad,
et al, who have the energy and enthusiasm to lead the
activities.

i think that Crackmonkey got it right when
he described $EXFIRM as 'train wreck. slow motion.' long
live free software.

baylinuxchix

some new people came to the linuxchix meeting tonight. they
are a few of the people who redid our web site as part of
their web class. they will be doing version 2 of the site
over the next couple of weeks, and when they are finished,
we will teach them how to use ssh on Linux to move files
around between servers. right now they only use ftp to
upload files, and the only OSs they are taught at their
school are MacOS and Windows. as a result of doing the
baylinuxchix web site for their class, they have become
intereted in learning Linux. it's pretty exciting to expose
these women to some free software that they otherwise might
not run into.

werk

mmmm. still good. go figure. i can't even really get too mad
at my exabeast, even though one of it's drives keeps
failing. the new drive i get tomorrow will be the 3rd
replacement. i usually like hardware, but sometimes it can
suck. josh did some work that will allow me
to do more monitoring stuff in the near future. this makes
me happy.

galaga

the galaga machine is still broken despite the fact that
it is a P1 for my cowerker. i would normally be very upset
about this, but i have been distracted by illuminati
instead.

job is good. it will be even better when the galaga game is
fixed. i'm learning all kinds of things that i've avoided
for awhile... database stuff and hardware stuff. it's not so
bad.

josh is doing very well on his installation
stuff for werk. yay josh!

Always invite mbp to parties. You will not
regret this.

In other news, schoen had a nice party on
Saturday. Seth's friends are most interesting. I wish i
could remember everyone's name to mention them in this diary
entry, but I am rather bad with names.

New job is good.
