I see that ppl have gotten sound working on the ia-1. Need 2.4.17-pre1 (or later :) and use via82cxxx sound module.

Will compile tonight and see what it does :-)

Regarding linux on jornada 720, serious development there.. should have it running familiar linux distro (v.5) by end of next week!!

Hacking madplay itself to add buffering (needed for battery-life preservation on iPAQ with all the hits it does on udrive or over nfs wireless mp3 sources).

Many scream improvements - bugs squashed, etc. Also saves streaming playlists.

Looks like plain intel ICH audio driver will work for ia-1. Need to try (building).

Scream screaming under debian-sid with kde :-)) Redid process control for madplay and all's well... and learned the value of strace with the -f and -ff options ;) Now I can really start cracking on scream's features again.

Got xfree86 running nicely on the IA-1. After comparing jailbait's xf86config with the 4.0.1 versions, I finally figured out what was needed. The Cyberblade chip is apparently a trident variant and works nicely with that driver. A bit slow but definately works. (Gnome surplanting wince - life is good).

Still struggling to figure out what's going on with Scream and running it on my laptop (kde). Something happening with artsd and madplay. I suspect artsd has changed quite a bit in how it does its process handling and doesn't like my code for scream's console io/processes when spawned by artsdsp. Still works fine with iPAQ (typical ;-)

Forgot to add that I've unofficially started a little web-app for controlling my mp3's. Currently called 'mp3pad', it serves up a php-scripted page that shows all my mp3's and allows for playlist functionality (rudimentary currently). My setup is a server upstairs, 100' of speaker wire to downstairs stereo (ugh!) and mp3pad calling madplay for low cpu usage (and fidelity!).

Originally created it as 5 files with frames but went frameless (and 1 file, gotta love php) for dillo/iPAQ functionality (nought like walking around wireless and playing mp3's on stereo with ipaq as the interface).

Pondering allowing access to others (maybe allow a sub-playlist for external choices) so my stereo can be another 'internet device' for ppl to globally toy with... would be interesting.

Bought a $99 Compaq IA-1 device from TigerDirect [all sold out :-( ]. Used the jailbait distro to see it boot linux. Then threw debian potato on udrive and have it in debian-sid now :-)) Next I'll try a cpu upgrade if I can source a mobile K6. For me, the best part was gleaning how to setup lilo.conf from jailbait's. Makes me want to dig out jornada 720 and have a crack at that again...

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
