I graduated (wow!) in Geology on 15th December 2000, University of Perugia, Italy. Now I look around to see if something fits to me. In my thesis I used mainly Free Software and I'm proud of that. I'm a radio amateur, my callsign is IK0YUP.

Free Software projects I'm envlolved in:

  • Xastir. APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System) client. I translated menus and documentation in the italian language.
  • GRASS GIS. I'm planning to give an effort for producing some geology-related tools.
  • PGS: A low-cost PDA/GPS based solution for (geology) field logging. Data collected can be imported into GRASS GIS. The software is available under the GPL license.

GNU/Linux will have DVB support on 2.6 kernel. Recently I bought a cheap DVB card in a local store and I wrote some documentation about it so to help other users and developers tu use it on GNU/Linux systems. You will find the page at this URL:

Typhoon DVB-s on GNU/Linux @ Perugia Linux Users Group website.

News since last year: now I'm a PhD student in Structural Geology!
The use of Free Software makes PhD very exiting, studying codes and exchanging point of views with other people developing free software. I'm very happy about that!
Yesterday I put online my new free software project: PGS, a low cost PDA/GPS based solution for field surveys.

I passed the exam. They told me I am a Professional Geologist... ehrm, am I?
Game of the week: Back Engeneering on A/D card. Soldering Iron as the Excalibur sword! In the name of the Free Software!

Let's start the diary! Thanks to ciro for the welcome. Topic of the week: Studying for the exam to get in the Professional Geologists Corporation and playing around on my Debian-GNU-linuxbox.
