Now the GCC Developers' Summit is 4 days away. Close to 90 of the most significant GCC developers will be arriving on Saturday for three days of intense highly technical talks and discussions on the future of GCC.

Finally after months the GCC Summit is happening. Industry support has been excellent and we hope to bring together all the key players for a meaningful and productive event

At home, 3 months of additional fish tank upgrades and the marine reef system is looking pretty cool. The whole setup is teaching me a whole new appreciation for closed (and open) system ecologies as well as a hellalot of things like coral, anemonae, shrimp, clam, snail, biology (I avoided using the latin names mostly because I fail to spell them correctly.

New house is working out pretty well, the headaches of the hell that is Conservation Coop is long behind us now. A word of advice to people, even if the housing looks good don't give others the ability to pass 'bylaws' on you unless they're armed.

Well things are underway for a GCC Developers Summit. Now all we need is enough content to fill three days and some sponsors to help out with the costs.

Planning for GCC (working name for a GCC Compiler Conference) is underway. Looks like April 15-18th, in Ottawa, likely at the very nice Westin conference space.

Next step is to identify everyone who might be interested in attending such an event... which would be a lot easier if you'd just email me ajhATfinux.org and tell me :)

Nearly recovered from this years OLS and starting to get some interesting ideas. One thing that I've discovered is that I actually like running conferences (well the technical focused kind at least, I still can't stomach much marketing hype).

So, for next year I'm currently in the planning stages for a GCC & Toolchain conference. I'd appreciate any feedback "ajh at finux.org" as I'm currently trying to judge numbers and set dates.

More as things develop

Today we released our FreeS/WAN 1.97 for RedHat 7.3 RPMS.
We encourage everyone to take a peek, the annoucement and
links are at <a

The Linux
Symposium is pretty much sold out now. The mix of
developers who will be attending is very, very, impressive
and June should prove to be a very interesting time in
Ottawa. Of course I'm pretty much insane from the pressure
at this point.

If one person can be more lazy in posting regular diary
entries I haven't met him yet.

Seems I was worrying for nothing, seemsOLS is nearing 90%
sold out despite the 'economic slowdown'.

Somehow managed to extricate myself from the timewarp that
always seems to surround OLS. At some point someone will
need to explain to me exactly what did happen during the
Symposium.

Other than my Laptop going missing (grrrr) my recolllection
of details is somewhat fuzzy. This is presumably due to
lack of sleep for 3 days as I did not consume nearly enough
alcohol this year (unlike 2000 where entirely too much was
quaffed.)

Today courtesy of Mesaba Air and NorthWest I got to fly
Ottawa-Detroit then Detroit-Raleigh. The Saab 340 turboprop
was reasonably nice if old, but the landing in Detroit in
clear weather was quite disturbing as the pilot seemed to
experience difficulties finding the runway.

Well that said, I made it safely without any noticable
delays and am now sitting at Red Hat and wondering if I can
avoid the Brycecam all week or not.

Down to about 40 more spaces available for the Linux
Symposium which means I soon get to move on to more
exciting work (yea!) so people, sign up and fill those
spaces!

Well, time is getting really short for OLS registrations and
we're still about 50 people away from selling out this year.

Seems the tech crash has affected far more travel and
training budgets than we had anticipated. I'm sure it will
sell out, but the slowdown is very noticable.
