Notes: I'm a Teaching Assistent in University of Minho, in Portugal, where I teach Operating Systems, with an almost exclusive focus on Linux.
I've been a Linux advocate for 7 year, and I regularly give advocacy talks in Linux and Open-source related events. I'm a Co-"master" Editor at Gildot, a portuguese slashdot-like discussion sites.
Until a few months ago I was the coordinator for the Portuguese language of the Gnu/LI translation project.
I'm a contributor for GNU tar, having done the translation for Portuguese.
I've also co-authored two papers,in portuguese, on the merits of linux. The first dealt with our groups experience in the University of Minho, the other was a more generic discussion fo the Open Source model.
Gildot has been a success: it's target audience is only 10 million people, but is is gaining momentum every day.
This past week we have been threatned with a lawsuit by someone that didn't like some comments posted by our readers. A strong position assumed by us made him get back to his senses, but the doubt remains... Is a slashdot-like site liable for the comments of its users?
