Older blog entries for adraken (starting at number 4)

I showed the design prototype to 5 people (the magic number) and have had all positive responses. Except for a "text as graphic when graphic could be text -- but not really" quip from garrett (heh, kinda hypocritical on his part, and a dual content column request from technoir, no real complaints. The frontpage looks very good.

I've started the prototype for the content pages. It looks very cute.

Ok, I've started on a design prototype -- finally. Interestingly, it does NOT include the logo I've created before (see previous diary entries). What I like: the black section that includes the title is really high contrast, allows the nav area to be very noticable. Good. The bottom part is still in limbo. Things that need to be included:

  • News (or just headlines a la linux.com),
  • Newest themes w/ screenshots (80x60),
  • Screenshots (80x60),
  • Feature of the Day,
  • Poll,
  • and headlines from other sites.
The last one is a tricky one, many people oppose it, frankly, I find it useful (but we need more sites to pull from, like GraphicsMuse or Gnotices). I prefer an unobtrusive way like this (that prototype is not under development, it was scrapped months ago). The 3 column look will probably stick to themes.org forever, oddly. I have no idea why.

After brooding and nitpicking for a long time, I've produced an extremely large version of the new logo (on white), and an 150ppi PNG with full alpha trans. (perfect for print, etc.). This should be infinitely scalable without problem.

Well, we're sort of planning a redesign -- yes, more usable. Many of the staff members who actually give a damn are getting antsy. So, I'm being pressured to make a test layout. I should have one by the end of my spring break.

To begin, I've started a few betas based on the new logo. The one that I'm not even thinking of using got the greatest response.

  ð nemo/#themes.org thinks "yummy"

odd.

It looks like people like this logo prototype. (text will probably be "themes dot org") It resembles a twig or a lowercase 't' inside an 'o'. I guess that works, I have given up on trying to make any coherent symbols.

I'll try to make a larger version for *ahem* mar... err.. stuff.

ah, my first diary entry. this seems very redundant to post stuff here while i just finished a php diary at adraken.themes.org.

hmm, this is odd, advogato seems to allow people to certify themselves. well, i just certified myself as apprentice. woop.

attempted a few more logo prototypes for themes.org.. argh, i want to get rid of that old logo.

well, since it looks like the themes.org staff has been whittled away of most pseudo artists, if anyone is interested in volunteering for themes.org on an artistic basis, mail me.

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
