Notes:

I'm a guy who came to the free software community because it looked a lot like the academic research one I find familiar.

I'm primarily a space advocate who happens to be trained as a physicist. That makes it unlikely I can be of much help writing code for tools typically used by software developers.

Where I try to pitch in is with the writing of science and math packages that may be used by other developers as libraries or directly by researchers as tools in their fields.

My math package (clados) implements a Clifford Algebra of as many dimensions as you need. My Solar Sail simulator (SailAway) uses this math package underneath the physical model.

oof

I've painted and moved furntiure for another relative. One of my brothers-in-law has a new house and a lot of furniture to move into it. I am a pile of bruises and sore muscles.

I'm currently thinking that anyone who thinks the 'family' has gone the way of the dodo in the US is quite mistaken. Family has become partially synonomous with 'cheap labor', but the expectations are obviously present and binding. This makes me mildly curious to read some anthropology and see if the families of European cultures always worked this way or if we have been evolving into it.

I'm not knocking any of this, though. After my muscles are calmed down, I'll be able to expect reciprication from that brother-in-law when my house needs paiting.

And the cycle goes round.

So much to learn. So little time.

I got frustrated with the requirements gathering phases of projects for my day time employer that I decided to try to learn about all that myself. It seems there are people who think they know how to do it and their are people who just wind up with the job. So...I've been learning about use cases and trying to apply it all to my own projects. It's a lot of work, but it is clarifying a few things that were foggy. I thought that controlling all the aspects of a project would let me start development and keep it all organized without the typical lead in I see at work. Now I know why that didn't happen.

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
