It seems that everyone+dog is going to work at Zero
Knowledge Systems. It seems like a very cool company. I
think I would like to be an Evil Genius (tm). There's
something appealing about being paid to think about abstract
math all day.
Things are progressing well on the DVD front. I've managed
to tweak my MPEG-2 codec to the point where realtime
playback is possible on a pII-450 (ish). I have plans to
bring this down to the pII-300 level sometime soon. Our
major stumbling block now is dealing with the somewhat
broken sync mechanisms of the MPEG-2 systems standard (which
were further mutated by the DVD folks). Most of the problems
stem from the painful 3:2 pulldown mechanism and the fact
that the timestamps in a DVD stream aren't
contiguous.
Hopefully if all goes well, you'll see a full fanfare alpha
release in a month or so (famous last words).
