Today I played aroud with Junkbuster and Squid in Linux.
Cool! I am using the Junkbuster modified by Stefan Waldherr
<http://www.waldherr.org>. What I like of this guy's hack is
that no longer do you see broken images. He had substituted
the broken image logo with a 1x1(?) pixel. Squid just blasts
the whole downloading process.

Together these two
make my
life easy and relaxed. I just don't need to see anymore
hotmail logos, Slashdot logos/ad banner and even Kuro5hin's
logos and banner!

Not to get back to my Masters project!

I was trying out Active Perl after a long... long time and
was quiet impressed by the amount of progress. Things were
quiet smooth, except when I needed to use PPM. The PPm ,
unlike "perl -MCPAN" doesn't do an automatic config setting
the first time it is used. Thus it took me some time before
I realised that HTTP_proxy had to be set as a ENV
variable.

The guys should get this step in because when they expand
and have mirror sites for their packages, one should be
able to choose the site to use the first time around. I
guess just following the present style in perl should be
good enough.

Lately I have been trying to play around with MP3
streaming. Since my Univ has a hast LAN, I decided to write
a search engine for MP3 search over Univ. LAN.

The whole process consists of two parts.
First I use MP3 Voyeur to search the LAN for MP3 files.
Then I wrote a perl script to put the generated MVL file
into a MySQL database. Then I wrote a searchable front end
to the database. Everything seems to work. The only problem
is that MP3 Voyeur seems to be slow. It has been running
for some 7 hours now. It has found around 32,600 MP3 files
so far.

Next I will try to make dynamic MP3 playlists for myself.
Ahhhhh once MP3 Voyeur finishes the search :(

I just had a very bad week. It turns out that the project
that I was planning to do for my Master's degree has been
done by some group for over 5 years now..

So I am, right now, in the hunting_for_problem
mode.

Just sent the first draft of one of my course assignment to
the lecturer for "Sneak Preview". I was suppposed to write
on the use of "Template and Frames" in programming. I chose
Tm (Template Manager). Waiting for the lecturer's reply.

This will be my first diary in Advogato. I plan to keep
this place as a log of what I am doing in my life,
Ofcourse, only tech related stuff will be put here. I did
not want to burden my
personal site with
these
informations !:) Maybe some selected stuff may be copied
over to Srijith.Net.

It still remains to be seen as to how regular I am at this!
