Another month flew by without a diary update. Shame on me! First of all, Merry Christmas to all of you. The last weeks before Christmas were very busy - we are now in beta for our upcoming 7.1 release. Beta-3 is out for about 1 1/2 weeks now and it does not look too bad - at least it installs on most systems without crashing ;)

However, I am on vacation right now and I just check my mail from time to time. Right now, I am in Montreal, Kanada, visiting a good friend and colleague here. We just arrived yesterday and already made a cool dogsled-trip through the north of Canada today. Great fun, even though one of my dogs managed to escape! Fortunately they caught him later on. But it is amazing, how cold it is over here! Brrr.

Tomorrow, me and Sabina will be visiting Dan at his new home in Ottawa. Let's see, if we get lost...

I cannot believe that almost have a month is already gone again. I told you I am a terrible note keeper :)

Anyway, I was (and still am) very busy updating my packages for the upcoming release. We finally have long package names! It was about time. Now I rename and update, test and install... In addition to that, a security update for Pine was needed. 4.30 finally added threading support, but I am not impressed with that yet.

I am also in close contact with davej now, to create a new powertweak package.

Back at work after a fun weekend. We had friends visiting us at saturday, sunday was hang-loose day...

Updates on my home page: added the video clip of my last appeareance at NBC Giga, new desktop screenshots.

Yesterday afternoon was exciting - a photographer was here to take pictures of some of us for a new company brochure. She was a real pro - she had taken pictures of a lot of famous people (politicians, managers of big companies). But the shooting session took a long while and some of us got really annoyed... It must have been quite an experience for her to work with geeks like us :)

I am looking forward to see the final pics!

Spent about two hours on trying to compile Pine with SSL-Imap support today. Unfortunately the README seems to be wrong or outdated, I could not manage to place the files in the correct location. Why can't they simply provide a diff?

We are working on Sunday today (well, reading email and browsing the web).

The season is over - I brought my motorbike to my parents this weekend, to store it away for the wintertime. Fortunately the weather was very nice yesterday, just a bit cold.

Phew, the past week just flew by! I did not manage to post a single diary entry. Anyway, I am back home from ALS.

I returned to Germany yesterday morning and slept all day. Now I am back in the office and I am catching up with two days of mail. Not too bad...

ALS was big fun and I met and talked with a lot of great people.

Also, Linux on S/390 won the best of show award! This is really great, since our S/390 are working really hard on getting the final release out.

The batteries lasted long enough for me to catch up with all issues of the Linux Weekly News I missed in the past weeks and reading several other articles. Nice! In parallel I was listening to MP3s. I also watched "Gladiator" during the flight - not a bad movie.

I arrived safely in Atlanta. Fortunately the Internet access works without a problem, so I am back online!

Yesterday was "package day". I upgraded some of my packages and added some missing packages to the list on my home page.

Today I am going to set up my laptop for the trip to Atlanta. Which means, that I am torturing wwwoffle and leafnode to have something to read during the flight :) Fortunately this laptop has two batteries, which will hopefully last a while...

Returned to work after a long weekend (Tuesday was a national holiday and I took Monday off, too). It was very relaxed - we went to Heidelberg on Saturday and Sunday, visiting our parents and going to the "Heidelberger Herbst". Unfortunately weather was bad, so we went to a Thai restaurant instead of partying on the fair. Monday was shopping day in Nuremberg and Tuesday was "hang-loose" day. We watched two DVDs, "Sleepy Hollow" (Excellent movie) and "ExistenZ", which was rather weird. It reminded me a bit of "The 13th floor" and "Matrix".

The tickets for my trip to ALS arrived, and I will start setting up my Laptop for the trip tomorrow.

Well, I am back from vacation, at least physically. My internal clock is still 6 hours off, but I hopem it will get better soon.

The vacation was just great - being completely offline for two weeks was very relaxing. I have read about six novels in a row - seems like I really needed some distraction.

Let's see, how long the recreation effect lasts - I must have gathered more than 10.000 emails. It will take me a few days to catch up.
