Current projects :
Learing QT, C++, Java
KDE- Usabilty study with Jono
Running my Apache webserver here
Well i'm still being kept busy at Uni, but i am making time
for KDE in my spare time. I have been compiling load s more
stuff via Telnet.
Yesterday Jono heard about the Linux expo in London and was
very excited at the thought of being able to set up a kde
booth there. He asked if i would like to help him out with
the booth, i said yeah and he made some phone calls. Anyway
we decided that it would be a good place to carry out the
KDE-Usability study on ppl who vist the booth and use a
machine ! I have been working on the web site, still not
complete as i need to polish up the questions :

Also tonight at uni me and Jono listened in to the kde-
multimedia meeting on IRC, to see what was being sorted out
for future developments of multimedia for KDE
Anyway better get to bed, i'm v.tierd

Well it's now Saturday (technically it's Sunday here),
1am
and what a day my machine has had today.
Basically i have been busy at Uni this week, our
presentation about colour on Thursday went well, Craig
done well with a test of the senses, which went down well
with our tutor.
Anyway back to Linux,...yeah i have been comiling and
getting all of the problems that i have had, sorted out. I
got
my sound card to work on Friday which means that i can now
play midi's, which in turn means that i can look into the
possibilties of starting my first KDE project KWindChimes
which shall use aRts.
I got koffice working, and also extra things updated
like
Kdetoys KdeUtills etc. Jono helped me get the Aqua Theme
for KDE working, I had overlooked one thing, i didn't
apply the widget theme in the theme mgr!!
I have had a mate over this weekend and I refused him
accses to Windows, while me and Jono educated him to the
joys of Linux and KDE :) he had a document to type up and
i managed to use AbiWord for the first time
My auntie who has been over due in her pregnancy
popped a
baby girl out this week so i shall probably see here this
coming weekend :)
Plans for this coming week include Uni work in the day
and
Linux hacking durring the night. I was thinking about
updating my Kernal as i have a few probs with my USB Zip
Drive and that seams to be the only problem left to fix. I
will also be picking up my QT tutorials and getting to
grips with the basics of KDE Development.
A very KDE intensive weekend has been had
See you all later

I have been in university all day today, planning a presentation with Jono and Craig about colour and how colour is used in life and how it can be used effectivly in computer interfaces.
Interesting HCI stuff which may come in handy for the KDE Usability study (that reminds me i must type up the questions for the study, i think jono has set the lab conditions)
i have a busy rest of the week at uni, only free time i'll get for Linux will probably be Friday but i have Telnet and a 24/7 connection so that will suffice :)
Anyway must get to bed i'm shattered

firstly thank you to jono ;) and Guillaume who certified me as an Apprentice :).
Well i had my Java lecture today and i thought that i might as well telent back into my machine from uni and use it as a compile farm. I used the JDK1.3 compiler on my PC and then had the files ftp-ed back to my at uni. I have found a new friend in editing remote files, no not vim, but pico !!
I went back to my parents house over the weekend to catch up with them and i left my PC connected all weekend. This allowed me to use telnet to log back in from my parent's PC and get my PC crunching and updating even though i wasn't at my uni home !! I also used that time to sort out a few Linux problems and also notify developers of bugs in some cvs code via irc.
anyway better get off to bed as i have to be up for uni tommorow, hum i wonder if Jono will be up for coming into Uni considering that it's now 1am and he's still not back from his Hammerfall gig?!
Cheers
Lee
Let me introduce myself, My name is Lee Jordan, aged 20 living near and attending Wolverhampton University in the UK. I live with Linux God : Jono Bacon, who introduced me to Linux and KDE. Ever since that fateful day i have fallen in love with the beauty and freedom of KDE and Linux in every way that a Windows user can !!
I Study Interactive Multimedia at Uni which means that I have to work in Windows, but i am willing to bring my Multimedia Skills to KDE in the best way that i can as soon as i get my hands into some code.
I am currently involved with Jono in the KDEUseability study, which we hope will help the developers of KDE and similar projects see things from a user centered point of view. Our HCI work at uni will come in handy for that. Also when i get my Sound working and i get some time from uni i shall atempt to write a few programs for KDE based on the QT toolkit.
Today i helped point out with a KOffice compilation bug to one of the Koffice developers and sure enough the bug was fixed within a couple of minutes, it was a typo in one of the header files :)
I had better go and get some sleep i have a Java lecture tommorow at 9am !!
See you later
