Back to work...

Bought Mandrake 8.0 today.

need to get scsi-over-isa working so I can burn
CD backups first.

can't believe it's been over a month since I posted a diary.

better get to it...:)

Have been reading Andrei Alexandrescu's book on Generic
programming in C++. I've been getting ideas almost of
'Badvogato' proportions...:)

The the thing is...how to relate that to CORBA and IDL.
IDL are by nature 'static' interfaces.

Bian McNamara and Yannis Smaragdakis have an interesting
paper on oonumerics.org about static interfaces and generic
programming that might be of use.

I need a flexable Raster object factory that incorporates
Policys and Prototypes. These idioms should allow Berlin to
have clear advantage over other environments in terms of
flexability and ease of use.

Hope so

Felling better...:)

Wrote a note to Raph.

It's on thing to b*#ch about a policy and quite another
to b%$ch and supply a suggested answer.

My answer to the problems of trust metrics:

'Moderated observers' Since observers obstensibly have no
right to direct speech here...'Let them have moderation.'

Seems simple...:)

I will forward an article to Raph and let him decide it it's
worthy for Advogato...given it's source from one of the
'unworthy'....:)

Can you tell I still don't like trust metrics? ;>

Ok enough of this...

Feeling low...

Why should I care what anyone thinks?!

Seems I find this feature of Advo to be it's best.

I certainly don't expect anyone but myself to acually read
this.

So here I am struggling with dependant libraries to add
support for MNG to the Berlin server. Have to learn how to
build a build system for some of this. But this on top of
everything else is tough.

I get so discuraged sometimes.. One might ask why do any of
it it if it makes you feel bad...But...It's really that I
know what needs to be...what would be really cool...I always
see the big picture clearly. But, my skills in making that
happen seem so inadiquate.

Funny thing the social aspect of free software projects...

Some of these guys here are so amazing. Like stefan...He can
code about as fast as he can think. I get so frustrated and
intimidated tho. My own ineptitude....

Well...I don't feel to good about things...but damn it...I
said *I'd* do it...and I am. So what if I spend hours and
hours doing what someone else might take 30 minutes to do.

Reminds me of when I failed typing class in High
School...Smartest fuckin kid in school...failed because I
couldn't switch my brain off long enough to just see a
letter and hit a key...:/

well I'm tired and need sleep....

Well...I don't really know how well Raph's little trust
metric values are working out. Seems all based on fame and
reputation. I'd liken it more to a beauty contest or High
School election than anything else.

I'm known by a few people here and there <even
prepherally
by RMS and ESR>. But I will be content to toil in
obscurity
and if I make a contribution then good.

Here a few things tho:

I don't want anyone to read this and go and certify me.

I won't ask people to certify me either. I did that but
once
to get this far and felt wierd about 'self promotion'.

So:

Let my diary entries be a protest to the selection
<trust
metric> system.

If you want to read what I have to say about discussions
posted on the front page...look for a diary entry for me on
the side.

and those with write permissions that want to comment on
what I write just mention 'see arrow's diary entry of
<date>'.

I will keep my comments in the form of sub headings in
the
form of...

Note to the discussion of <blah>:

Ok that's the diary post for today...have a good one
everyone
