Show me the Code

Advogato is based on the Apache module, mod_virgule. The mod_virgule source code currently being used to run the live Advogato is available as a tar.gz file. The latest mod_virgule development code is available from the mod_virgule Subversion repository (use at your own risk!). The changelog and a mod_virgule ToDo list are also available. The current code is a based on Raph Levien's original mod_virgule code and is licensed under the GNU GPL. You will need recent versions of glib, libxml2, and the Apache APR lib to build and install mod_virgule.

Mod_virgule is written in C. Patches and feature ideas are always welcome. The code is undergoing a lot of change right now, so it's best to coordinate with me before attempting any major changes.

The original mod_virgule code created by Raph Levien and used for the live Advogato site prior to 1 Oct 2006 is available from CVS hosted on

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.

Keep up with the latest Advogato features by reading the Advogato status blog.

If you're a C programmer with some spare time, take a look at the mod_virgule project page and help us with one of the tasks on the ToDo list!
