New mailing list: ix64 - 64 bit Unix issues

Posted 24 Sep 2000 at 18:32 UTC by penguin42 Share This

I've made a new mailing list for discussion of all 64 bit Unix issues, irrespective of processor, Unix varient. All are welcome. I'd like to see commerical 64 bit Unix users as well as open source ones all join in.

The ix64 mailing list

For discussion of issues relating to 64 bit Unix and Unix style OS's and applications that run under them. The list is CPU, endian and Unix varient agnostic; discussions about issues on particular CPUs/Unixs should be restricted to comparison between systems, attempting to see if issues are truly 64 bit issues, and generalized issues.

Please keep it nice and friendly - flame wars should be extinguished as soon as possible!!!

I guess many of us Alpha users find bugs in apps which mean they aren't 64 bit clean; we fix them and I suspect they eventualyl get back to the authors. But I bet you MIPS, SPARC, PowerPC etc guys have the same problems; and when a new app comes out I guess we all fight it at the same time - what a waste!

Also, I guess there are 'how should we change this' for 64 bit questions which would be nice to keep consistent.

(If you have problems resolving lists.treblig.org please email me at dave@treblig.org - It seems to have stabilised but I'd like to know of problems).
