Meta: We're being Salonned

Posted 18 Jul 2000 at 16:14 UTC by advogato Share This

Advogato woke up this morning to find a huge number of new people joining, but otherwise business as usual. The reason why shortly became clear: we're the result of a very positive article on Salon.

I just wanted to point this out, and also open up a thread on the front page in case people feel the desire to discuss it.

could you please provide us with a list of people that is sorted by the date they joined, (like the projects list) so it is easier to see which people we havn't yet looked at for certification?

thanks, eMBee.

Why I joined ..., posted 18 Jul 2000 at 21:15 UTC by charlie » (Journeyer)

Because I'm sick of the slashdot Taliban and the incessant trolling/spamming of usenet, and there are people I respect talking about interesting things here, and it just seemed like more of an interesting community.

Salon was the first mention I'd seen of Advogato.

Maybe there's an answer buried in there somewhere?

I figure I'll just preempt the comments a couple of months down the line and ask for rank-based comment filtering now. :) After all, after seeing discussion here, at technocrat, and several other forums, we all know that this site is going to end up in slashdot hell, right? :)

But seriously, I think more people is good. This site existed for many months before I found out about it, and it's one of the few places where I see issues particularly related to programmers discussed.

You know, I had noticed the "waves" phenomenon myself, but it has a certain recursive quality. By the time you notice the fact that your wave of friends have come and gone from advogato, you are already not posting diary entries any more.

To rachel, I say "Beaujolais!" for mentioning the crackmonkey mailing list!

Perhaps I'll start posting diary entries again.

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.

Keep up with the latest Advogato features by reading the Advogato status blog.

If you're a C programmer with some spare time, take a look at the mod_virgule project page and help us with one of the tasks on the ToDo list!
